Emma Lena McLelland Wellman, 82, of Taylorsville, passed away Sunday December 4, 2016, at Brian’s Center of Statesville, after a lengthy illness.

Emma was born March 2, 1934, in Iredell County, daughter of the late Henry W McLelland Sr. and Margaret Louise Falls McLelland. She was a homemaker. She was also a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Wellman, Sr.; two brothers, Henry McLelland Jr. and Rudy Dye; a sister, Karen Dye; a grandson, Marcus Speaks; a son-in-law, Ralph Smyre; and a sister-in-law, Hattie Wellman.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Steve Wilkerson Wellman of Taylorsville, Clarence Wellman, Jr. of Statesville, and Henry Wellman of Stony Point; three daughters, Darlene W. Smyre of Kannapolis, and Brenda W. Powell and Emma Jean Wellman, both of Stony Point; sisters, Sylvia Dye and Stella Mae Pearson, both of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Cameron Smyre, Latisha Speaks, Taketha Norman, Cedrick Smyre, Charity Wellman, Rickey Wellman, and Kashawna Dorvil; 18 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Janice Jones, Diane Chapman, and James Adams (Binder).

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Rev. Modene Dunlap and Rev. Kristy Burnette will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the church, and other times at the home of the son: Henry Wellman, 177 Johnny Martin Lane, Stony Point, NC.
