Pauline Johnson McCurdy

Pauline Johnson McCurdy, 87, of Statesville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 9, 1929, in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Johnson and Blanche Chatham Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Early in life, Mrs. McCurdy worked at Troutman Café and later for Statesville Record and Landmark. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church for 50 years, where she served in many areas of the church. She taught Sunday school classes, sang in the church choir, served on many committees and Vacation Bible School.

Pauline enjoyed traveling and camping. She loved her family dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, James Newton McCurdy; her children, Gilda (Jerry) Haithcox of Stony Point, Rodney (Teresa) McCurdy of Statesville, Kimerly McCurdy (Tommy) Simmons of Charlotte, and Jill McCurdy (Daniel) Kale of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Angela (Kevin) Acoveno, Shanda Lauri, Daniel (Jessica) Dudley, Skylar Kale, Meagan Rudd, Isaac (Katie) McCurdy, and Anna (Daryl) Crouch; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Johnson of Hiddenite; and a sister, Hazel Morton of Carrolton, Ohio.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 9, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating Pauline’s life will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at East Side Baptist Church, with Rev. Johnny Bolin and Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
