Cougar Grapplers prepping for West Regional

This weekend, several members of the Alexander Central Varsity Wrestling Team will participate in the North Carolina High School 4A Western Regional Tournament at Hough High School in Cornelius.
The 2017 regional event will being on Friday evening, February 10 and conclude with matches on Friday, February 11.
The top-four finishers in each weight class this weekend will punch their tickets to the North Carolina State Championships the following weekend in Greensboro, NC.
Seven members of this year’s Alexander Central club enter this weekend’s regional tourney with 20-plus wins.
The Cougars are led into the event with a trio of 30-plus match winners. Junior Ethan Lewis, who most recently captured the NPC Championship at 152 pounds, carries Alexander’s best record into the regional. Lewis enters this Friday’s regional with a sparkling 39-2 record.
Senior Calen Lombardy (172) and sophomore Isaac Chapman (285) earned runner up finishes in the NPC and each wrestler carries at least 30 wins into the regional tournament. Lombardy will enter regional action with a 37-6 record, while Chapman, a first-year high school wrestler in the heavyweight class, has a 30-9 overall record.
Other top records for ACHS include: Charlie Lee (26-19) at 106 pounds, Chase Warren (23-16) at 126 pounds, Christian Romero (25-14) at 160 pounds, and Bubba Thompson (20-15) at 220 pounds.
Wrestling action at Hough High School is set to begin at 5:30 pm on Friday evening, February 10, with first round regional action. On Saturday, February 11, action will resume at 9:30 am at Hough High School.
