Man airlifted following motorcycle wreck
A local man had to be transported by helicopter to a Charlotte hospital after he was injured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday, May 6, according to a report filed by N.C. State Highway Patrol Trooper Clint Patterson.
Harold Dean Reece, age 25 of Duncan Hill Lane in Taylorsville, was riding a 1999 Honda motorcycle north on Hwy. 127 near Baker-Teague Drive and Fellowship Church Road when a vehicle backed out in Reece’s path. The motorcycle ran off the road on the right, struck a mailbox, and overturned. Reece came to rest in a yard facing south. The vehicle which had obstructed the roadway left the scene, the report noted.
Patterson estimated Reece’s speed at impact as 70 miles per hour. The posted speed limit on that section of Hwy. 127 is 45 mph. Reece was cited for exceeding the posted speed limit and for having no operator’s license.
Reece was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. His grandmother, Judy Fox, stated he suffered a broken femur, pelvis fracture, three broken ribs, and liver injury.
