James Ralph Pool(e) was the first person from Alexander County to play baseball in the major leagues. After attending Lenoir Rhyne College, he played first base for the Philadelphia Athletics under Connie Mack from 1922 to 1925. He was born in Taylorsville in 1895, the son of Rev. Daniel Wilson Pool. He died in 1975 and is buried at Linney's Grove Baptist Church in Hiddenite. |
