Hunger benefit race Tuesday
The fourth Race Against Hunger Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Pollard Raceway Park provided more than $1,000 for 957 Mobile Cafe along with a collection of non-perishable food.
The Sigs Tire Center race team opened the first 20-lap segment with a strong showing and expanded their points totals in the second and third segments to claim the benefit race victory.
The Scotty’s Hometown Grill team led the donations effort which totaled $1,007, a new high for the 2016 Race Against Hunger events. Darren Scott said drivers for his team included Elbert Peterson, Johnny Paz, Wayne Osborne, Trish Herman, Amanda Sturgill, Kensley Hubbard, Jose Morales, Joshua White, Brian Paz, C. J. Ester, Isaac Scott, Mason Hubbard, and Chloe Scott.
The next race is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, at 6 p.m. at Pollard Raceway Park, which is located on NC 90 East behind the former Harry Gant Steakhouse (Cheffey’s restaurant).
The September 6 race will feature Taylorsville Savings Bank vs. First Community Bank. This Race Against Hunger will benefit Stony Point Christian Ministries.
Monetary contributions and donations of non-perishable food, shampoo, soap, and toilet paper may be brought to Pollard’s Raceway Park at the racing event.
