Sigs Tire wins benefit go-kart race Aug. 30

FUNDS FOR MEALS — The August 30, 2016, Race Against Hunger at Pollard Raceway Park, between Scotty’s Hometown Grill and Sigs Tire Center, assisted the 957 Mobile Café which serves meals at several locations across Alexander County. Darren Scott, left, and Jamie Sigmon, right, presented Mike Richmond, Director of the 957 Mobile Café outreach, with a symbolic check representing the funds raised for the benefit race. A total of $1,007 was collected for the 957 Mobile Café program.

RUMBLE AT THE RACEWAY WINNERS — The Sigs Tire Center team won the Race Against Hunger on August 30, 2016 at Pollard’s Raceway, out running the Scotty’s Hometown Grill Team. The winning team included from the left, Brandon Sigmon, Kevin Sigmon, Wilson Sigmon, Matt Rockette, Larry Pollard (track owner), Tracey Sigmon, Hayden Sigmon, Jamie Sigmon, Tony Sigmon, Gage Sigmon, Bailey Jary, Dallas Sigmon, and Dylan Sigmon. Two more events in the Race Against Hunger series are scheduled for upcoming Tuesday nights benefitting different local food ministries.

Hunger benefit race Tuesday

The fourth Race Against Hunger Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Pollard Raceway Park provided more than $1,000 for 957 Mobile Cafe along with a collection of non-perishable food.

The Sigs Tire Center race team opened the first 20-lap segment with a strong showing and expanded their points totals in the second and third segments to claim the benefit race victory.

The Scotty’s Hometown Grill team led the donations effort which totaled $1,007, a new high for the 2016 Race Against Hunger events. Darren Scott said drivers for his team included Elbert Peterson, Johnny Paz, Wayne Osborne, Trish Herman, Amanda Sturgill, Kensley Hubbard, Jose Morales, Joshua White, Brian Paz, C. J. Ester, Isaac Scott, Mason Hubbard, and Chloe Scott.

The next race is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, at 6 p.m. at Pollard Raceway Park, which is located on NC 90 East behind the former Harry Gant Steakhouse (Cheffey’s restaurant).

The September 6 race will feature Taylorsville Savings Bank vs. First Community Bank. This Race Against Hunger will benefit Stony Point Christian Ministries.

Monetary contributions and donations of non-perishable food, shampoo, soap, and toilet paper may be brought to Pollard’s Raceway Park at the racing event.
