Cecil Edward King, 83, of Hiddenite, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016, at his residence, after an extended illness of twenty years.

Cecil was born October 26, 1932, in Iredell County, son of the late Charles Edward King and Dorothy Anna Gwaltney King.

Cecil was employed before his illness as a farmer and had retired from Holly Farms/Tyson poultry industry. He was of a member of Damascus Baptist Church and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1953 thru 1955.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert Bruce Lambert.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Helen “Pat” Goodin King of the home who faithfully cared for him; two sons, Richard Edward King (BJ) of Statesville, and Rodger Craig King (Jill) of Taylorsville; and a daughter, Patricia King Lambert of Hiddenite; two sisters, Nancy Johnson (Grady) of Hiddenite, and Linda Cullen (Bob) of Tega Kay, South Carolina; grandchildren, Katie Okey (David) of Morganton, Laura Gardner (Andrew) of Marshville, and Joel King of Concord; and great-grandchildren, Ruby and Curtis Gardner of Marshville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016, at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel, 158 Stony Point School Road, Stony Point. Rev. Charles Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends at Chapman Funeral Home, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016. Burial will be in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation of choice to one of the following organizations: Carolina Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis, 4600 Park Rd., Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28209; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004; or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.

    Mrs. King and Family, I used to come see Mr. King with Home Health. I always enjoyed seeing Mr. and Mrs. King. I am sorry to hear of Mr. King passing away. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Margaret Jimison
