Grady Woodrow Stevenson

Grady Woodrow Stevenson, 91, of King Sprinkle Road, Hiddenite, passed away, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Woodrow was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Louise Lackey Stevenson, in 2002.

He was born July 11, 1925, in Iredell County, son of the late Stamey Shuford Stevenson and Nonnie Ethel Sloan Stevenson. He was a retired dairy farmer and a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.

Woodrow was inducted into the United States Army during World War II, on September 21, 1944, and was honorably discharged from service on July 25, 1946, after serving in Berlin, Germany.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his eight siblings, Allie Franklin Stevenson, Eva Kate Stevenson Sprinkle (Lonnie), Chattie Ethel Stevenson Rupard (Lincoln), Mary Lizzie Stevenson Reynolds (Ellis), Ida Belle Stevenson, Stamie Sloan Stevenson, James Russell Stevenson (Corene), and Jean Stevenson Minnish.

He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Jeanette Stevenson of the home, and Karen Louise Stevenson of Greensboro; his son, Barry Dale Stevenson and wife Angie of Hickory; three grandchildren, Lisa Stevenson Chapman of Hickory, Jessica Ivey Stevenson of Greenville, and Barry Alexander Stevenson of Wilmington; five great-grandchildren, Joseph Chapman, Jenna Chapman, Jesse Chapman, Jack Chapman, and Jason Chapman, all of Hickory; a sister-in-law, Mary Lackey (M.A.); a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins; and a special thanks to his caregiver, Lana Kerley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Dr. Rev. Garry Revels and Rev. Mike Duncan will officiate. The family will receive friends, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., at the church prior to the funeral service.
