Mary Katherine Presnell Shew

Mary Katherine Presnell Shew gracefully passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 surrounded by loving family.

Mary was born July 9, 1923, daughter of Walter L. Presnell and wife Pearl James Presnell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Odell James, Kelly Presnell, Jack Presnell, Jerry Presnell, and James Presnell. Left to cherish the memory of her parents and siblings is one Ms. Geneva P. Chapman of Statesville.

Mary was a loving, hardworking woman of the Christian faith. After 31 years of service, she retired from Gulf States, in Conover, in 1995. During this time, she also enjoyed traveling with Eller Catering Company on weekends. Mary was a devoted, generous mother and grandmother.

She leaves behind three sons, W. Henry Shew and wife Theresa of Tucson Arizona, and Charles R. Shew and Bobby W. Shew, both of Taylorsville; six grandchildren, Robin S. Childers and husband Archie of Taylorsville, Myra S. Maynor of Moravian Falls, Teresa L. Shew of Denver, K. Denise Shew of Taylorsville, Kristin S. Bost of Houston Texas, and Michael Shew of Tucson, Arizona; three great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mary was a strong-willed, free-spirited woman with a compassionate heart. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed.” Proverbs 31:10, 27-28.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, from 6-7 p..m., at Alexander Funeral Service. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m., in the Three Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Keith Childers will officiate.
