George Hamilton Carter, Jr., 65, of Freedom Lane, Hudson, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care-Hudson.
He was born May 24, 1951, in Rockingham County, to Rachel Hodges Moorefield and the late George H. Carter.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, James Moorefield.
Mr. Carter was a wonderful hardworking husband, father and provider who greatly loved his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was retired after 30 years as a truck driver for Allied Systems.
Survivors in addition to his mother, Rachel Hodges Moorefield, include his wife, Glenda Calloway Carter of the home; a son, Butch Carter and fiancée Rebecca Farmer of Granite Falls; a daughter, Wendy Welker and husband Joshua of Hudson; a brother, Russell Carter and wife Christy of Winston-Salem; a sister, Sonja Allen of Reidsville; four grandchildren, Kala Maltba, Jarret Welker, and Clayton Welker, all of Hudson, and Hailey Carter of Granite Falls; and two great-grandchildren, Mariah Maltba and Eli Maltba, both of Hudson.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at 3:00 p.m., at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Tom McDonald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
