James Andrew Poole PhD, 57, of Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family on January 14, 2017.
Andy was born in Taylorsville to Lawrence and Sally Sherrill Poole. He was a loving husband and devoted father who will be missed by his immediate and extended family, numerous friends and colleagues, and his dog, Maddie.
Andy honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years, and served in various billets worldwide including Fleet Cryptologic Officer, Executive Officer, and Commanding Officer.
After retiring from the Navy, he continued supporting Navy programs as a civilian Senior Program Manager, earning his Doctorate Degree in Strategic Management from J. Madison University. Andy was also a Senior Executive Fellow of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
For nine years, Andy also served in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, District 7, including positions as Flotilla Commander and District Staff Officer.
Andy was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence; and is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen; his daughter, Ashleigh; his mother, Sally; and his brother, Phil (Ann).
He was loved by many and will be missed greatly by a circle of friends across several states. There will be a private family service at a later date.
