AC Softball rallies past Mooresville Tuesday, improves to 10-0 overall

The Alexander Central Varsity Softball Team dug itself out of an early 4-0 hole to earn a come-from-behind win over the previously unbeaten Mooresville Blue Devils on Tuesday, March 21, at Taylorsville’s Central Park.
Mooresville looked poised to hand ACHS its first loss of the season, taking a 4-0 leading through two frames.
However, the home team rallied for six runs in the home half of the sixth frame to quell the Lady Blue Devils’ upset bid with an 8-6 win. The rally was highlighted by a pair of three-run long balls by juniors Chesney Millsaps and Brittney Krider.

The six-run uprising put Alexander (10-0, 5-0) in front to stay .
ACHS leadoff hitter Lanie Goforth’s recent hot streak at the plate continued Tuesday as the sophomore tallied four hits in the Cougar win.
Krider added a pair of hits and three RBI.
In the pitching circle, Kendra Mayes ran her record to 6-0 on the season with a complete game effort. Mayes shook off a slow start to limit Mooresville to just two runs over the final five innings to claim the win.
JV LADY COUGARS LOSE SECOND STRAIGHT
In Tuesday’s opening game, the Alexander JV Softball Team fell behind 6-0 after one inning and could never recover in a 12-5 loss to Mooresville.
Mattie Starnes, Gracie Rhoney, Jazmine Parker, Hannah Hefner, Jennifer Kidd, and Tara Chatham had one hit each for ACHS in the loss.
BASEBALL SPLITS TWO – On Tuesday, March 21, the Alexander Central JV and Varsity Baseball Teams split two league contests against the Mooresville Blue Devils at Bob Gryder Stadium. The JV Cougars earned a 3-1 win in the opener, while the Varsity Cougars dropped their second straight game in a 2-0 setback in the nightcap.
