Ethel (Nanny) Martin

Ethel (Nanny) Martin went to be with her Lord and beloved family members in heaven on Sunday morning, March 26, 2017.

She was born on July 1, 1924, in Ashe County, daughter of Avery and Bessie Shatley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Crowson “Doc” Martin. They had been married 64 years.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Robinette, and a grandson that she loved dearly, Jamey Martin.

Ethel leaves behind two sons, Jim Martin and wife Debbie, and Danny Martin and wife Brenda; four grandchildren, Tracy Martin, Emily Rini, Dustin Martin, and Erin Hackney; six great-grandchildren, Trevor and Hailey Fry, Carter Martin, Carson Hoyle, and Jamison and Davis Hackney. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. They all have great memories of the times they shared with her. She also leaves behind one brother, Carson Shatley and wife Betty; and two special nieces, Carol Cockrell and Diane Dellinger.

Ethel retired from Thomasville Furniture after 40 years of dedicated service.

She was a member of Highland Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher in the children’s department.

“Nanny” enjoyed having Sunday family lunches and any other family outings. She especially loved to go to the beach with the grandchildren and going to look at Christmas lights.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Highland Baptist Church, with Pastor Jesse Lott officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be: Dustin Martin, Trevor Fry, Will Hackney, Chris and Emily Rini, and Tracy Martin.

The family would like to thank all the loving, caring staff of Trinity Ridge, in Mt. View, for going above and beyond their duties in caring for “Nanny.” Ethel had very dedicated friends that visited with her, Larry and Diane Craig, Tony and Priscilla Martin, Susy Thompson, Judy Bowles, Marie White, and Nancy of Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
