Victor A. Baker (Andy)

Victor A. Baker (Andy)

Victor A. Baker (Andy), 69, of Alexander County, joined his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Born in Catawaba County to the late Paul and Nancy Baker, Andy was a lifelong resident of Alexander County.

After serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, Andy went into the construction business. In the early seventies, Andy started his own business, Midway Construction. He built and remodeled hundreds of homes and businesses in Alexander, Catawba, and Watauga counties. He was a hard working, focused, hands on man.

Andy was a compassionate man who loved to help people and give of himself. He participated in many missionary trips to Africa, Guatemala, Honduras, and the Ukraine. On these trips, he did whatever needed to be done from replacing roofs, pouring concrete, sweeping, cooking, or donating money. During these trips, Andy loved to share and spread the Word of God.

Andy loved being outside and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing whenever possible.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Penny Riggan, and brother, Bruce Baker.

He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 52 years, Shirley; his son, Vic; a brother, George (Vickie) Baker; a sister, Debi (Mike) Risley; close family, Betty, Hugh and Mike Sherrill, and Steve Cook; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Pastor Jerome Walker will officiate the funeral services to be held at Smyrna Baptist Church, in Taylorsville, on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., with the burial to follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
