Ellis Gene Begley

Ellis Gene Begley, 71, of Bowles Lane, Hiddenite, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Gordon Hospice House, in Statesville.

Ellis was born June 23, 1946, in Sullivan County, Tennessee, the son of the late John Matt Begley and Edna Hyatt Gibson.

He was a US Army veteran, who served in the Vietnam Era. Ellis had retired from Craftmaster Furniture after 19 years in the maintenance department. He was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hiddenite. He was a man of Baptist faith that truly loved the Lord. He loved fishing, riding horses, and truly enjoyed his tractor. He was a kind man, who just loved people and was blessed with so many great friends.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Hyatt and John Henry Begley; a nephew, Ray Stallard, Jr.; and his aunt whom he loved dearly, Ada Begley.

Ellis was a kind, loving, generous soul, who will be forever missed by his loving wife, Donna Shook Begley of the home; his sons, Ellis Begley, Jr. and wife Kimberly, and Johnny Begley, all of Catawba County; a step-son, Donnie Smith of Conover; six grandchildren, Cody, India, Peyton, Josh, Gage, and Hayden; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce Young and husband Robert, Lucille Stallard and husband Ray, Kathy McGuire, and Martha Busler, all of Kingsport, Tennessee; a brother, Floyd Begley, Jr. of Kingsport, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Hiddenite. Rev. Tom Lambert will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Gordon Hospice House for all the sweet, loving care we all received.
