Walter Vaughn Rogers

Walter Vaughn Rogers, 82, of Rocky Springs Road, Taylorsville, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Vaughn was born July 13, 1935, in Alexander County, the son of the late Albert Rogers and Tressie Hammer Rogers.

He was a US Army veteran, who served in the 82nd Airborne and was a member of Carson Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was the owner and operator of Rogers Mill and was a farmer. He loved to farm, loved boats and the water, and loved his family, children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory include his wife, Marion McClain Rogers of the home, who he married on May 9, 1953; two daughters, Becky Smith and husband Tommy, and Beverly Mautner; two sons, Robin Rogers and Rodney Rogers and wife Lisa; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany Getz and husband Derek, Bryan Rogers and wife Shanda, Devan Rogers and fiancée, Candance Dowell, Coty Smith and wife Krissy, Travis Smith, Tylynn Benfield, Austin Mautner and fiancée Tonya Prescott, Carly Mautner, Jonathon Hughes and wife Amber, Gunnar Rogers, and Megan Sparks; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alene Keller; a brother, Phil Rogers; and very close family friend, Kathy Daniels and husband Rick.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Carson Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Doug Hochmuth will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by DAV Chapter 84 and Chapter 6. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:30 p.m., prior to the service.

Pallbearers include: Coty Smith, Travis Smith, Bryan Rogers, Devan Rogers, Gunnar Rogers, Jonathon Hughes, Derek Getz, and Aaron Morrison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Carson Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 644, Taylorsville, NC 28681.

    Becky, so sorry to hear about your dad. It’s hard enough to lose a parent but when it happens at a holiday, it just seems so much harder. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family.
