Joy Harris Hudson, 59, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center, in Greenville.
She was born December 24, 1958, in Pitt County, daughter of Shelby Jean Harris and Jesse Jackson Harris. Growing up in Greenville before moving to Taylorsville, she was a 1977 graduate of Alexander Central High School. She received her associate’s degree in business administration, graduating on the honor roll and dean’s list, from Pitt Community College.
She worked as the Pitt County Recycling Coordinator for 13 years, establishing Pitt County’s recycling 10-year Solid Waste Master Plan, making recycling awareness presentations to thousands, and winning over 20 awards.
Joy truly lived life to the fullest. She had the most outspoken personality, beautiful smile, exuberant laugh, and brought joy to so many lives with her presence. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, always putting loved ones before herself.
She is survived by her daughter, Miranda Hudson; sister, Sandie Harris Stargardt; her father, Jack Harris; her step-father, Mike Holt; nephew, Justin Stargardt; niece, Courtney Bankoski and husband Marc; step-sister, Christy Williams and husband Danny; nephews, Marshall and Mack; along with numerous cousins and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shelby Jean James Harris Holt; aunt, Lois Elaine James Garrison; aunt and uncle, Jimmie Earl James and wife Jean James; grandparents, Lucille and Jack James; grandparents, Floyd and Eva Harris; and lifetime love, Elvis Presley.
