Edith Marie Crouch Ritchie

Edith Marie Crouch Ritchie

Edith Marie Crouch Ritchie, 88, of Taylorsville, took her final flight to her heavenly home on Monday, February 19, 2018, at her residence.

She was born on February 25, 1929, in Caldwell County, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ester Triplett Crouch. Before retirement, Edith worked for Clayton Marcus and Shuford Mills. She was a member of Fellowship Advent Christian Church. Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will forever remain in our hearts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bud and Ray Crouch, and sister, Mildred Duncan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 69 years, Johnson L. Ritchie of the home; son, Dennis Ritchie and wife Carolyn of Taylorsville; and daughters, Brenda Jones and husband Tom of Taylorsville, and Donna Hollar of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Dinah Brown and husband Danny of Hickory, Matthew Hollar of Atlanta, Georgia, Andrew Hollar of New York, Patrick Hollar and wife Mattie of Atlanta, Georgia, Crystal Webb and husband Dale of Taylorsville, and Marie Penina Ritchie of Taylorsville; great-grandchildren, Leyton Brown and Collin Brown of Taylorsville; sister, Joyce Wike and husband Jack of Taylorsville; step-brothers, Arnold Crouch and wife Carolyn of Taylorsville, Larry Crouch of Granite Falls, and Steve Crouch and wife Donna of Taylorsville; step-sister, Doris Duncan of Hickory; special niece, Melody Frizsell and husband Clarence of Hickory; and special friends and caregivers, Creolla “Tootsie” Jones, Betty Ann Gregory, Kay Mason, and Mary Smith.

Edith enjoyed life. In her former years, she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed being around people and loved working, cooking, traveling, shopping, eating out, and tending to her flowers.

Edith especially enjoyed getting together with friends and family during meal time and was known for her famous southern cooking, chicken-n-dumplings and home-made pies. She canned and froze immeasurable amounts of vegetables each year, which her husband grew in the family garden.

Edith and her husband worked very hard to provide for and take care of their family. She was very proud of, and would have done anything for, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – all of whom loved her very much.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 25, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., at Fellowship Advent Christian Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. David Ross and Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Leyton Brown, Steve Crouch, Andrew Hollar, Matthew Hollar, Patrick Hollar, Glenn Ritchie, Dennis Ritchie, and Dale Webb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Catawba at 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.
