Mary Sue Wilson Punch

Mary Sue Wilson Punch, 96, of Newton, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Born February 17, 1922, in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late William Robert Wilson, Sr. and Martha Mae Burgess Wilson. Sue was a member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton and was very active with the youth programs. She retired from Carolina Mills after over 25 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Alexander Punch, five sisters, and five brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Choppa and husband Bob, and Claudia Deal and husband Ray, both of Conover; granddaughter, Ellie Choppa of Raleigh; grandson, Christopher McGee and wife Caroline of Cary; two great-granddaughters, Molly and Hollis McGee of Cary; and sister-in-law, Betty Wilson of Richfield.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at the Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with Pastor Faye Herbin officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00-10:45 a.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.
