The filing period for the Alexander County Soil and Water Conservation District Board in the November 6, 2018, General Election began June 11 and will end July 6, 2018, at 12:00 noon. Two seats are open on the Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. The filing fee is $5.
The two open seats are currently held by Eugene White and Kathy Bunton. (Bunton was appointed as a Soil and Water District Supervisor in December of 2016 to fill the remainder of Myles Payne’s elected seat, according to District staff. Payne had moved into an “appointed” position on the Board when Wendell Kirkham decided to retire from the Board. However, Bunton is not able to run for election as a Carolina Farm Credit employee, so Bill Chapman has expressed his intention to run for her elected seat. Since Chapman is currently in an “appointed” seat on the Board, Bunton will be appointed to fill his vacant seat, if Chapman is elected.)
All candidate filing will be held at the Alexander County Board of Elections Office. For more information, contact the Board of Elections Office, 828-632-2990.
