Teresa Faye Walker
It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved, Teresa Faye Walker (nee, Helms) on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, has crossed over the River of Life and has joined her beloved Larry Dale Walker in Paradise.
Mrs. Walker was born to Ruby Rachel Helms (later Parker) and Oren Helms, in Mecklenburg County, on November 3, 1954. She attended North Mecklenburg High School.
In 1972, Teresa Helms became Teresa Walker when she married the late Larry Dale Walker of Taylorsville. Together they had two daughters, Rose Mary Walker Davis and Sarah Dale Walker Woodring, and an unborn son.
After the passing of her husband, Larry, Mrs. Walker met and married Hindle Little of Taylorsville. She was a loving and faithful wife and companion to Mr. Little until his passing in 2003.
Mrs. Walker worked in the field of Emergency Child Care and was previously a house parent at Grandfather Children’s Home. She also volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem for many years, serving as an officer of the courts in Statesville before her health began to fail.
Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Parker and Oren Helms; her late husbands, Larry Dale Walker and Hindle Little; an unborn son; her sister, Cathy Carver; her brother, David Helms; and her mother-in-law, whom she considered to be her mother, Mary Carrigan Walker.
Her late husband, Larry Walker, served as a Marine and was a Vietnam Veteran. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Walker were lifetime members of the DAV and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the DAV, respectively.
Mrs. Walker leaves a large legacy to carry on her memory and to celebrate her life, even as they grieve her passing. Survivors include her daughters, Rose Mary Walker Davis and life partner Billy Perry of Wilkesboro, and Sarah Walker Woodring and husband Billey Woodring of the home in Taylorsville; along with grandchildren, Kari Philbeck and husband David Rappold of Charlotte, Brandi Walker of Wilkesboro, Jesse Walker and wife Catilin, and by “grace”, Lishia Workman, Carrie Kendall and husband Ray, Jordan Workman, and Dalton Osborne; great-granddaughters, Saige and Kiari Walker. She is also survived by siblings, Carolyn Cashion and husband Jim, Oren “Butch” Helms and wife Sissy, Jane Teague and husband Ralph, and Rev. Susan Walker. There are many in-laws, aunts, uncles, and very special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Alexander Funeral Service on Thursday, August 23 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will take place at Christian Fellowship Church on Friendship Church Rd, Taylorsville, on Friday, August 24, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Scott Greene, Rev. Susan Walker, and Rev. Chris Meade officiating. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hiddenite Cemetery. A Fellowship meal will follow the interment, at the Christian Fellowship Church Fellowship Hall and the family would like for family and friends to join them.
The Family would like to take a moment to thank all who have offered prayers, words of encouragement, acts of kindness, and gestures of love during these last few difficult months. We would also like to thank the many Hospice workers, doctors, and nurses who have cared for our beloved in this time of need, especially the Hospice House staff and volunteers of Sherrill’s Ford.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Alexander Funeral and Cremation Service.
