Ruth Elizabeth Bentley McLain

Ruth Elizabeth Bentley McLain, 80, of Hiddenite, made her journey home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born on May 9, 1938, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Smith Howard and Elsie Childers Bentley. During her career she worked as a seamstress, but the Lord gave her a special talent as a wonderful artist.

Ruth was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served 40 plus years as a Sunday school teacher. She had a special love for the Lord and her family.

Along with painting, Ruth enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, sewing, and feeding the birds. She was a jewel in this world that will truly be missed but will forever be in our hearts.

Those left to cherish her memory include her caring and loving husband of 60 years, Edward “Edd” William McLain of the home; sons, Marty and Susan McLain, Barry and Carol McLain, and Bradley and Tammy McLain, all of Hiddenite; grandchildren, Jessica, Darren, Kelly, Tyler and Josh McLain; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray and Gary Bentley; sisters, Marie Sprinkle and Irene Lewis; along with a number of nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Durant Barr and Rev. Ray Raymer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
