West Sweeps Hoops Doubleheader over Falcons

Bulldog Teams complete perfect regular seasons

The West Alexander Middle School Basketball Teams closed out perfect regular seasons with a doubleheader sweep over cross-county rival East Alexander on Thursday, December 13, in the ACHS Cougar Den.

The West Lady Bulldogs broke their game open early and cruised to a 56-29 win over East in the girls’ contest.

The Bulldogs used a balanced offensive attack to secure the win as four West players scored at least nine points in the rout. Jenna Hensley paced the winners with a 15-point effort, while Sydney Hayes and Reid Pennell tallied 11 and 10 points respectively. Kaley McDaniels added nine points for the Lady Bulldogs.

For East, Kirstyn Herman led the way with nine points, while Madison Oxentine and Anna Jordan tallied seven points apiece. Averie Presnell netted six points for West.

In the boys’ contest, West claimed a 20-point win over the Falcons, rolling to a 51-31 final. The win completed the regular season sweep for the Bulldogs against their rivals from Hiddenite.

Chad Lasher netted 10 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 17 for the Bulldogs. Jordan Lineberger netted a dozen points for West, while Avery Cook chipped in with nine.

Andrew Fox and Steven Chapman paced the East offensive effort with eight points each. Jenner Barnes contributed six points for the Falcons.

The 2018 middle school basketball season is set to come to an end with the playing of the conference tournament on December 17-19. West Alexander will be the top seed for girls’ and boys’ post-season event set to be played at Granite Falls Middle School.
