Herman “Bud” Fred Stocks

Herman “Bud” Fred Stocks, 88, of Hiddenite, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 22, 1930, the son of the late James Elbert and Ruby Warren Stocks. During his career, Bud worked as a carpenter and also at Broyhill Furniture for 13 years. In his spare time would refinish pianos and organs.

He honorably served in the US Army and was a faithful member and choir leader at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. Bud was a good, godly man serving and taking care of his family and his church family.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to all. Bud loved gospel music, playing the electric guitar, and singing, especially with his brothers.

Along with his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim and Paul Stocks; and sisters, Naomi Efird, Louise Fox, and Eula Mae Land.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jean Fox Stocks of the home; children, Karen Denise Westbrook and husband Wayne of Taylorsville, Frederick Dennis Stocks of Hiddenite, and Christopher Dion Stocks and wife Danielle of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Dana Leigh Gustin, Christopher Ethan Stocks, Jamison Reid Stocks, and Timothy Shane Westbrook; great-grandchildren, Landon and Carter Gustin; brothers, Leonard, Elbert, David, Lester and Luther Stocks; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch King and Rev. Steve Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
