Phillip Barker
Phillip Barker, 77, of Sterling Lane, Taylorsville, entered into rest on Monday, April 22, 2019 following an extended illness.
He was born on June 13, 1941, in Alexander County, the son of the late Cecil Barker and Hattie Hines Barker.
Mr. Barker graduated from Happy Plains High School. He attended Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, usher, and a finance committee member. He was a proud, self-employed carpet installer in addition to his many years of employment at Rhodes-Day-Elledge, Escod Industries, and East Taylorsville Baptist Church.
Including his parents, those who have crossed over before him include a sister, Emma L. Mauney; two brothers, Lainey and Jimmy Barker; brothers-in-law, Joseph Little, Ezra Mauney, and Jerry Howell; two nephews, Bradford Howell and Lonnie Little; and two nieces, Nada M. Wellman and Peggy M. Barker.
Those left to honor and cherish Phil’s memory include his wife of 51 years, Chalma W. Barker; godchildren, Christin and Brandice Watts; sisters, Clara B. Little, Martha Jane Howell, Kay F. Barker, and Elizabeth Ann Howard and husband Rev. Sterling Howard; and nieces and nephews, Wayne Mauney, Sharon Ellis, Sue Watts, Stephanie Grant, Angela Barker, Reginald Barker, Craig Barker, Doug Barker, Dean Barker, Beverly Millsaps, Brian Howell, and Tonja Fox. Phil also has a host of great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews left to honor his memory.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Hwy 90 East, Taylorsville. Pastor William L. Brown, Sr. and Reverend Macy Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2 p.m. prior to the service.
