Joanne Millsaps Patterson, 80, of Hiddenite, went to be with her Lord in heaven peacefully, at home, on Monday, May 13, 2019 surrounded by those that loved her.
Joanne was born on April 10, 1939, in Iredell County, to the late Virgil and Irene Givens Millsaps. She graduated Central School in 1957. She married Otha ‘Grey’ Patterson in 1957. Joanne was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church where she spent many years singing in the choir.
Those left to enjoy her memory are her brothers, Douglas (Reola) Millsaps of Statesville, Vaughn Millsaps of Statesville, David Millsaps of Statesville, and Ronald (Rose) Millsaps of Statesville; her sisters, Wilma (Rex) Oliver of Stony Point, and Janice Teague of Statesville; her bothers-in-law, Walter Mason of Statesville, and Rene Hutchings of Statesville; sister-in-law, Betty Millsaps of Roanoke, Virginia; her children, Teresa Patterson of Statesville, Lori (Douglas) Johnson of Hiddenite, Danny Patterson of Hiddenite, and Randall (Elizabeth) Patterson of Hiddenite; 11 grandchildren, Jesse (Jessica) Clanton of Statesville, Bruce (Jordan) Bentley of Kernersville, Emily (Tyler) Angle of Stony Point, Brady (Hannah) Patterson of Hiddenite, Bethany Johnson, Tessla Patterson, Zachary Patterson, Dana Patterson, Kasianna Patterson, Isaac Patterson, Samuel Patterson, and a grandson on the way, all of Hiddenite; four great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Emerson Clanton of Statesville, and Corbin and Elijah Angle of Stony Point; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those waiting at heaven’s gate to greet her were her parents, Virgil and Irene Millsaps; her husband, Otha ‘Grey’ Patterson; infant son, Timothy Patterson; brother, James Ray Millsaps; sisters, Julia Bailes, Gwendola Mason, and Lois Hutchings; and sister-in-law, Eileen Millsaps.
Pallbearers are Jesse Clanton, Bruce Bentley, Brady Patterson, Zachary Patterson, Tyler Angle, and Daniel Gwaltney.
Services will be held at Rocky Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, May 19, 2019. The family will receive friends 2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. and the memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m., followed by burial. Rev. Henry Cook and Rev. Ervel Jones will be officiating the services.
