Graydon Sweet, 82, of Taylorsville, passed away at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory on May 30, 2019 after a period of declining health.
Born to the late George Thomas and Cleo Miller Sweet, Graydon was of the Baptist faith, played gospel music with the Gospel Strings, and played the bass guitar and many other instruments. Retired as a supervisor from Ideal Frames after 54 years, he was a master of all things woodworking. He was considered a “GREAT DAD and PAPAW” by his family.
In addition to his parents, Graydon was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Vaughan, Wilburn, and Wade; and four sisters, Betty Hill, Carol StClair, Lorene Hollar, and Drucilla Gwaltney.
Graydon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Mae Wallace Sweet; daughters, Teresa Sweet Lovett of Taylorsville, and Penny Branton and fiance’ Terry Cole of Morganton; granddaughter, Ashleigh L. Cornelius and husband Travis of Statesville; two great-granddaughters, Adalynn and Alyssa Cornelius; and brother, Donald Sweet and wife Dianne of Taylorsville.
