Sandra Hart Austin
Born October 14, 1941, in Caldwell County, to Ballard and Oletta Hart, Sandra Hart Austin passed peacefully into Heaven on August 31, 2019 at Carolina Caring Hospice after a prolonged battle of heart disease.
Her best days were spent sewing, painting, working in the garden and listening to bluegrass and old-time music. Known as “Grandma” or “Sandy” across the music community, her biscuits and gravy quickly became famous throughout the years.
She loved and cared for her family fiercely.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay E. Austin Jr.; daughter, Sarah Beth Austin; sister, Susie Dean; and brother, Zane Hart.
She is left to be remembered by daughters, Cynthia Austin Wilson and her husband William Wilson of Hampstead, and Jaylyne Austin Wasmund and her husband Ken Wasmund of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Matthew and James Huffman, Nathan Leath, and Lauren and Austin Wasmund; along with five great-grandchildren; and dear friend, Leon Marlowe.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
