Virginia L. Gwaltney

Virginia L. Gwaltney, 92, of Hiddenite, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Brookdale-Memory Care Unit in Statesville.

Virginia was born November 3, 1927, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Parks Scott Lackey and Flossie Jane Kendall Lackey.

She was a homemaker and a member of Hiddenite Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her husband of almost 72 years, Gerald Gwaltney; two daughters, Janice Gwaltney Sharpe and husband William Gale of Hiddenite, and Jane Gwaltney Brittain and husband Mark of Salisbury; grandchildren, Curtis Sharpe and wife Shelley, Kevin Sharpe, Julie Applewhite and husband Chris, and Joel Brittain; and great-grandchildren, Jeanna Chapman, Haylee Sharpe, Alyssa Sharpe, Keaton Sharpe, Ethan Sharpe, Nylah Sharpe, Liam Sharpe, Colin Applewhite, and Jacob Applewhite.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2020 at Hiddenite Baptist Church. Pastor Zach Deal will officiate. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state from 2-5 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Adams Funeral Home for the public to come by to view and sign the book.
