Marie Reid

Marie Reid, 89, of Taylorsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Westwood Hills Nursing in Wilkesboro.

Marie was born July 24, 1931, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Ray Ellis and Maude Webster Ellis Elder.

She had worked as a weaver in the textile industry and, later in life, she helped her husband with the mulch business. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church, where she loved her Preacher Eddie and family. She loved the outdoors, especially her flowers, loved cooking, and enjoyed going to car shows. She was a great visitor to the area rest homes and nursing homes.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady W. Reid; two sons, Joe Pennell and James Pennell; granddaughter, Paula Sherrill; grandson, Sammy Russ; son-in-law, Terry Foster; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Pennell; three sisters; and two brothers.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include three daughters, Mae Foster, Rhonda Sherrill and Harvey, and Tammy Fortner and husband Tommy, all of Taylorsville; two sons, Jerry Pennell, and Eddie Pennell and Bonnie, all of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Stacy, James, Brian, Jessica, Nikki, Debbie, Chris, David, Jeremy, Kristen, and Nathan; a number of great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Hester Pennell; and lifelong best friend, Mary Ann.

A graveside service will be held at Noon, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Eddie Jolly will officiate. No formal visitation but the body will lie-in-state from 9-11 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel.
