Troy L. “Jeep” Sherrill

Troy L. “Jeep” Sherrill

Troy L. “Jeep” Sherrill, 84, of Hiddenite, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Iredell Memorial Hospital due to COVID-19.

Jeep was born January 18, 1936, in Alexander County (Drumstand Community), the son of the late Ernest Escar Sherrill and Lela Grant Sherrill.

He was a US Army veteran and was a lifelong member of Elk Shoals ARP, where he served as an Elder and Clerk of Session. He enjoyed spending time with everyone he would meet, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He was a faithful servant to his special needs son, Brian, for over 52 years.

He loved Gunsmoke marathons, mowing grass, and occupying a chair at Bun’s Garage (and talking the afternoon away). He had a knack for raising tomato suckers into mature plants, savoring persimmon pudding, and telling stories about the old home place. He will be missed, but everyone who knew him well knows that we’ll “see him directly” up above.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Dean Sherrill and Terry Lee Sherrill; grandson, Aaron Michael Sherrill; brothers, Rock Smith, John Sherrill, Grant Sherrill, and Lindsey Sherrill; and sisters, Lois Madison, Isabelle Sherrill, and Arnette Benfield.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory include his wife of 65 years, Nancy Hines Sherrill; sons, Monte Sherrill and wife Becky, Scott Sherrill and wife Michele, Brian Sherrill, and Kevin Sherrill; grandchildren, Katie Puckett and husband Zach, Evan Sherrill, Bailey Sherrill, Vada Sherrill, and Darby Sherrill; great-granddaughter, Torryn Puckett; a sister, Ruth James; a brother, Larry Sherrill and wife Laine; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Alexander County Veterans Honor Guard. Dr. Earl Linderman will officiate.

Pallbearers include family and members of Bun Chapman Garage.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to be serving the Sherrill Family.
