Frances H. Campbell

Frances H. Campbell, 84, of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in Cary.

She was born February 23, 1937, in Statesville, to A.J. and Margaret Frances Dodd Haynes.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Austin Campbell.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Mary Ann Younts and husband Joel of Fleetwood; a son, Haynes Campbell and wife Catherine of Cary; and two grandchildren, Ashley Campbell and Alexander Campbell.

Frances (nicknamed “Happy” by her first grandchild) was best known for her always positive demeanor and goodwill towards everyone around her. Those who knew her best often said that she was dedicated to a job well done in all facets of her life. She loved traveling and spending time with her family.

Frances was a retired school teacher with Alexander County Schools, where she taught for 26 years. She was also a small business owner with a retail clothing store, Kay Haynes, which was in downtown Taylorsville for almost 20 years. Frances also served as a board member of the Alexander County Partnership for Children.

Frances served the Republican party for many years as a precinct organizer, fundraiser, poll worker, and coordinator of staffing for headquarters during every election cycle. She was inducted into the Alexander County Hall of Fame in 2019. Frances was a longtime faithful member of the Alexander County Republican Women’s Club, serving in numerous positions such as President, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian. In 2018, Frances was a recipient of the NC Republican Women’s Tribute to Women.

Frances was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for over 60 years, where she played the organ and loved serving her church community.

Largely due to COVID concerns, the burial will be privately held with close members of the family only in attendance. The memorial service is to be held at Crosspoint Church’s Point Park, located at 5960-6438 NC-127, Taylorsville, NC 28681, at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Pastor Dave Carver of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will lead the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 323 1st Ave SW, Taylorsville, NC 28681; Alexander County Republican Women’s Club, 9 S Center St, Taylorsville, NC 28681; or NC State University [A.J. Haynes Endowment Fund], Campus Box 7474, Raleigh, NC 27695-7474.

Frances Campbell was one of the kindest and sweetest people I have ever known. I had the privilege of being her colleague at ACHS for many years, and she was always the same to everyone —- compassionate, sincere, and caring. Frances was an excellent teacher and a wonderful lady. My sympathy is extended to her family and friends.

Haynes, I’m so very sorry for your loss. Your mother was a one of my favorite teachers. Such a very kind soul, and always with a smile. Through the years, after graduation, marriage, and children she always remembered me when running into her when being about town. I know you’re going to miss her. I’ll be praying for you, and your family for peace, and comfort in the days ahead.

As a child, I played at the Campbell house with Austin. Mrs. Campbell was always so kind and gracious. A virtuous woman was Francis Campbell! She will be missed. Haynes, please accept my sincere sympathy. If you come back to Taylorsville – I am eventually moving back to my mothers house- please come and visit.

My deepest condolences to family. What I valued was her honesty even when she could only disclose part of what do he knew. A high valued trait that is rare.
