Tracy Jay “TJ” Mitchell, 34, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.
TJ was born on April 1, 1987, in Hickory, to Angie Icenhour Mitchell and Dale Mitchell.
He was self-employed and had a vast interest in traveling, hydroelectric dams, railways, and antiques. Those who knew TJ referenced him as an “old soul” at heart and considered him wise beyond his years. He never met a stranger and was loved by many.
He is survived by his mother, Angie Icenhour Mitchell and dear friend Allen Haneline; his father, Dale Mitchell and his partner Pennie Harr, all of Taylorsville. He resided with his beloved maternal grandparents, Russell and Lovenia Icenhour whom he adored. His aunt, Teresa Icenhour Bolick, whom he loved dearly, and husband Mark, all of Hickory, also survive.
TJ was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Kenny and Edith Mitchell.
A celebration of TJ’s life will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Hwy 16 South, Taylorsville, NC 28681. A receiving of friends will begin at 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. There will be a private burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
