Ruth Benfield Baker

Ruth Benfield Baker

Ruth Benfield Baker, 90, of Taylorsville, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Ruth was born May 23, 1931, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Carris Benfield and Effie Richey Benfield.

She had worked for Carolina Comfort and Huntington House. She was a member of Fellowship Advent Christian Church where she had taught Sunday school, a children’s group called the Milows for a number of years, and was also very supportive of Advent Christian Missions and other ministries.

In her earlier years, Ruth enjoyed traveling with her family, gardening, and growing flowers. She had a passion for reading and studying the Bible. Ruth loved being with her children and grandchildren, her church family, friends, and neighbors. She wrote many letters and cards of encouragement, wanting people to know, according to some of her last words, that “Jesus is the only way to salvation.” She was a definite people person that dearly loved her Lord and Savior.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Baker, and a brother, Allen Benfield.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her daughters, Elaine Baker Preslar (Lynn) and Delores Baker Jolly (Shannon), all of the Bethlehem Community; her grandchildren, Casey “KC” Preslar (Paige) and Andrea Preslar Smith (Justin); her great-grandchildren, Jude Smith, Stella Ruth Smith, and Ozzie Preslar; her sister, DeRae Lyda of the Bethlehem Community; her brother, Bruce Benfield (Dot) of the Bethlehem Community; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and neighbors.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Fellowship Advent Christian Church in Bethlehem. Pastor David Ross will officiate. A private graveside service will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Fellowship Advent Christian Church, 885 Icard Ridge Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
