Free summer meals offered for children

Alexander County Schools will be providing meals for children 18 years old and younger at no cost to families. Daily meals include breakfast and lunch. Parents or guardians may pick up meals daily from 12:30 p.m. – 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with meals for Friday through Sunday available at the Thursday distribution. Meal distribution locations in Alexander County are Alexander Central High School and East and West Alexander Middle Schools.

If parents are unable to pick up meals, a limited bus route is scheduled. Please call the Child Nutrition office for more information at 828-632-7001.

To receive meals during the July 4th holiday week, parents must pre-order online from the district website www.alexander.k12.nc.us or call the office. The link to pre-order for the holiday meals will be posted on the district website site during the week of June 14. Meal distribution for the holiday week will be at Alexander Central High School only. The first-holiday meal distribution will be July 1 for 6 days (July 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) and the second distribution will be July 7 for 5 days (July 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11). Please call the Child Nutrition office for more information at 828-632-7001.

This program is sponsored by the USDA in an effort to reach the estimated 12 million children experiencing food insecurity in the US. The program provides meals at no cost to families. Due to an extension of the existing waiver, children do not have to be present for a parent to pick up meals.
