Shelby Jean Cook-Combs

Shelby Jean Cook-Combs, 83, of Taylorsville, passed away from an extended illness Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Frye Regional Medical Center.

She was born Thursday, May 5, 1938, in Raleigh County, West Virginia, to the late Darl Edgar Cook Sr. and Beulah Nan Cook. She loved gardening and flowers were her passion. She was a homemaker most of her life and taking care of others was always her main priority.

In addition to her parents, Shelby Jean was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Laverty, and three brothers, Dale Cook, Jack Cook, and Charles Cook, all of Arnett, West Virginia.

Shelby Jean is survived by three sons, Steve and wife Carolyn Combs of Taylorsville, Danny Combs of the home, and Timothy wife Lara Combs of Granite Falls; a daughter, Anita Lafferty of Taylorsville; four brothers, William Cook of Taylorsville, James and wife Patsy Cook, and Philip and wife Debbie Cook, all of Arnett, West Virginia, and Darl Cook Jr. and wife Ida of Ohio; seven sisters, Minnie Lemon, Lextra Davis, and Rebecca and Deteria Cox, all of Arnett, West Virginia, Linda and Mary Daniel of Taylorsville, and Doris Combs of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Jay and wife Tina Davis of Ohio, Dezaray and Megan Chapman, Jason and wife Cheryl Lafferty, Jennifer Garcia, and Michele and husband Jeremy Murphy, all of Taylorsville; numerous great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson, Myles.

Funeral arrangements for North Carolina will be conducted by Pastor Philip Coffey at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Victory Baptist Church, 5542 NC-16, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Arrangements and graveside service for West Virginia will be conducted by Andrew Davis at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Flat Branch Baptist, 4472 Coal River Rd., Arnett, WV 25007.
