Emma Oakley Vernon

Emma Oakley Vernon, 75, of Taylorsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at her residence.

She was born April 15, 1946, in Stokes County, to the late Rufus P. Oakley and Sadie Sands Oakley.

Emma was a founding member of Unity Baptist Church in Taylorsville and retired from the furniture industry after many years of service. She loved attending church, working in her garden, traveling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Douglas R. Vernon, and sister, Shirley Oakley Walker.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Douglas Vernon II of Beaufort, South Carolina; a daughter, Malinda Falls and husband Jerry of Hickory; a brother, Norman Oakley and wife Gwen of Mooresville; a sister, Brenda Hall and husband Clyde of Walnut Cove; grandchildren, Ashlee Falls and Andrew Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per Emma’s wishes, there will be no public services.
