Mary Elizabeth Johnston Harrington Wike, 92, of Taylorsville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.
She was born July 15, 1928, in Iredell County, the daughter of the late James Arthur Johnston and Letha Mae Parker Johnston.
Mary retired from Schneider Mills in 2019, at age 90, after 65 years of service. She received the Key to the County in 2016 and also was the grand marshal for the 2016 Christmas Parade. Mary was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church. She loved her family and her church family unconditionally. Mary loved baking, gardening, and her flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Orin Harrington; her second husband, Gayton Wike; her daughter, Jean Fox; her grandsons, Stephen Fox and Brad Ball; her brothers, Harold Johnston, Calvin Johnson and wife Betty, and Dwight Johnston; her sister, Helen Tickle and husband Garland; and her brothers-in-law, Tom Inman and David Cummings.
Those left to cherish her memory include son-in-law, Allen Fox; her grandson, Jeff Fox and wife Tracy; her great-grandchildren, Joshua Fox and wife Lorie, Jacob Fox, and Danny Ball; her great-great-grandchildren, Cameron and Silas Fox, and Christian Ball; her sisters, Ruth Cummings, Gladys Inman, and Shirley Roberts and husband Wayne; her sister-in-law, Ester Copeland; also surviving the children of her second husband, Hazel Starcher, James Wike and wife Bert, and Michael Wike; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 16, 2021, at Reformation Lutheran Church. Pastor Craig Sigmon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 -2 p.m., prior to the service, in Reformation Hall.
Pallbearers include Jacob Fox, James Johnston, Jason Johnson, Steve Cummings, Eddie Inman, and Danny Johnson.
Bobby Johnson and Tim Simms will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that everyone please follow CDC guidelines for all services.
