Carolyn Sue Dyson Gilreath, 78, of Stony Point, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her beloved husband, Larry, on Tuesday, May 3, 2021.
Mrs. Gilreath was born on August 23, 1943, the daughter of the late Arvil and Stella Munday Dyson. She grew up on the family farm alongside her three brothers and seven sisters.
Carolyn was a graduate of Scotts High School and, in 1963, she married Larry David Gilreath. Together, they shared 54 years of marriage before his passing in October of 2017.
Family was Carolyn’s life; she devoted all her time and talents to those she loved. She was an excellent cook and her kitchen was always open. She was also a talented baker-decorator having made many beautiful wedding cakes for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a skilled seamstress, gardener, and the family “beautician.”
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Gilreath was preceded in death by her brothers, Lindsey, Edsel and Wade Dyson; and her sisters, Verna Walker and Pauline Fox.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Ken Gilreath (Patti) and Eric Gilreath (Wendy); her grandchildren, Kendra Gilreath Myers, Austyn Gilreath (Allison), and Jacob Gilreath; and her great-grandsons, Gavin and Alex Myers. She is further survived by her sisters, Mildred Miller, Doris McLelland, Betty Christie (David), Shirley Cranford, and Margie Shaver; her sisters-in-law, Peggy Sharpe, Carol Millsaps (Archie), and Linda Dyson; along with a host of nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
A funeral service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held at High Noon, Saturday, May 7, 2022, in the chapel at Bunch Johnson Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Fitzgerald officiating. Burial services will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens in Statesville.
