Doris Fortner James
Doris Fortner James, 92, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at her home in Alexander County.
She was born on July 22, 1930, in Alexander County, to the late Howard B. Fortner and Lorna Kerley Fortner. Mrs. James was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. Mrs. James worked at Schneider Mills for 35 years and, after retiring there, she helped her husband, Joe, auctioneer. She was a homemaker, loved keeping her grandkids and enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Joe James; daughter, Sandra Lee James Albert; brothers, Harold Fortner, Lynn Fortner, and Bob Fortner; and sister, Marie Watson.
Those left to cherish the memories of Doris include her son, Randy James (Kathy); grandchildren, Jonathan James (Brittany Setzer), Nathan James, and Chris Albert; great-grandchildren, Makayla James, Jordan James, Addee James, Jase James, Jake James, June James, Ava Albert, Hendrix Albert, Logan Dyson, and Dawson Dyson; beloved son-in-law, Duane Albert; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. A special thank you to caregivers, Crystal Dyson and Tracey Dyson.
Visitation for Mrs. James will be Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Little River Baptist Church from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Little River Baptist Church on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Keith Childers, Rev. Tony Wilson, and Rev. Zach Deal will officiate.
Nathan James, Jonathan James, Jordan James, Tracey Dyson, Chris Albert, and Duane Albert will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Dyson, Chris Dyson, and Reggie Dyson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alexander Hospice, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681; Lebanon Baptist Church, 167 Lebanon Church Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681; and Little River Baptist Church, 2070 Little River Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
