Jake Carlton Cooke III

Jake Carlton Cooke III, 72, of Hickory, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir.

He was born May 23, 1950, in Martin County, to the late Jake Carlton Cooke Jr. and Elan Bland Cooke. Carlton was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover where he was a Deacon. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the Hickory Rescue Squad and a founding member of the Cary Rescue Squad. Carlton also worked as a football official and retired as a field agent in the insurance field.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Judith Miller Cooke of the home; son, Joseph Cooke of Hickory; daughter, Heather Stafford and husband Bryan of Taylorsville; and grandchildren, Tessa Stafford (11) and Tabytha Stafford (5).

A memorial service to celebrate Carlton’s life, with military honors by Catawba Valley Marine Corps League, will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service. Rev. Dr. Tim Jernigan, Rev. Dr. Ed Yount, and Rev. Dr. Chuck Campbell will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
