Rachel Miller Shook

Rachel Miller Shook

Rachel Miller Shook, 89, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family and friends.

Rachel Miller Shook was born on September 7, 1933, to Earl and Elsie Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debbie Shook; her sisters, Mary Lee Hope and Colleen Hammer; and the love of her life, Herman Shook.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Tanya Shook Comer (Gary) and Dana Shook Beach; grandchildren, Courtney Osteen (Kyle) of Hickory, Garrison Comer (Allison), Teresa Herman (Kevin), and Mindy Oxentine (Cody), all of Taylorsville; her great-grandchildren, Carsyn and Cooper Osteen, Amelia and Audrey Comer, Avery and Anna Herman, Luke Street, and Graydon, Madison, Clay and Brent Oxentine; and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Joe C. Teague (Mickie) of Hickory; special adopted daughters, Jennifer Little (Phil Whittaker), Mitzi Poovey, and Vicki Goble (Garry); and her loving caregivers, who provided her the most love and care, Lorie Pearson, Barbara Campbell, Penny and Kathryn Harris, Amber Walker, and Savana Snook. To them we want to say “We love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck,” just like Mother always told them.

Rachel worked at Carolina Glove for many years before founding Taylor King Furniture with her husband, Herman, in 1974, where she supervised the sewing department. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and recently attended Reformation Lutheran Church.

Rachel was full of life and she spent many years dancing with her friends and making people laugh. She was always the life of the party and wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat and had a good time as well.

The funeral will be held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jamie Steele. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. There will be a gathering of friends prior to the funeral from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. until Noon, on Monday, February 27, at Adams Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include Garrison Comer, Luke Street, Kyle Osteen, Kevin Herman, Cody Oxentine, and Josh Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearers are Gary Comer and Donald Mitchell.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at McLindon’s Restaurant on Friday, March 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., where she loved to be with her special friends at “Brushy,” Debbie, J.J., Jennifer, and all the wait staff along the years who all called her mother.

Memorials may be made to Alexander County Hospice, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681; or to Reformation Lutheran Church, 443 West Main Avenue, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
