Barbara Jean Chapman

Barbara Jean Chapman, 79, passed away on May 24, 2023, at Hickory Falls Nursing Center.

She was born in Alexander County on February 21, 1944, to the late Redge Chapman and Hazel Crouch Chapman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Edgar Chapman, and her sister-in-law, Frances Earp Chapman.

Barbara is survived by her brother, Larry Chapman; nieces, Stacey Chapman and Wendy Chapman; Wanda Earp and Mary Tabilio.

Barbara spent the first twenty years of her life in Alexander County where she was baptized in the Baptist church. She then moved to Caldwell County and began a long-time career at the Holiday Inn in Lenoir, where she managed housekeeping. Barbara founded Chapman Cleaning Service and operated it until her retirement.

She would regularly meet up with her friends at the Coffee Shop in Lenoir or Donna’s Café in Hudson. To say that Barbara was an Elvis fan would be an understatement, as she was an avid collector of his memorabilia. She had a love of animals, music, and movies. Her special long-time companions were her dog, Dino, and her cats, BC and Cody.

A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Dan Duke officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 prior to the service.
