Eugenia Mae Echerd Perkins

Eugenia Mae Echerd Perkins
Eugenia Mae Echerd Perkins was reunited with her deceased husband, Theodore Edison Perkins, on August 2, 2023, at 109 years old.
She was born in Statesville, daughter of Charles Echerd and Flora Gwaltney Echerd on April 13, 1914. She lived the last 68+ years of her life in Greensboro as a devoted Member of First Friends Meeting and worked in North Carolina Public Schools for over 40 years.
She is remembered by her children, Sarah Warren, David Perkins, and Samuel Perkins; grandchildren, Joshua Perkins, Jacob Perkins, Jennifer Graf-Perkins, Christopher Perkins, Adam Garzon, Meagan Baucom, and Whitney Ariza; and many great-grandchildren.
She lived her life in the light and brought music and love to so many in the Quaker community. She sang the “Messiah” with the Greensboro Oratorio Society for more than 35 years, until she was 92 and could no longer stand for as long as it required. She was a violinist with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra until the 1970s and sang in her church choir at First Friends.
She traveled internationally to Friends World Conferences, the last of which she took with her son, David, to New Zealand at age 90. She was a lifelong academic with multiple graduate degrees. She spent her retirement volunteering with Meals-on-Wheels and caring for those at Whittier in Friends Homes Guilford.
Her life celebration will be held at Friends Homes Guilford on August 19, 2023, at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend in person or by zoom. https://duke.zoom.us/j/92638236420?pwd=TmJEQmRmRXBRbXd4Y2RGcEVCM2tuUT09
