James Estel Roberts

James Estel Roberts, 83, of Hiddenite, passed away on February 6, 2024, at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

James was born July 12, 1940, in McDowell, West Virginia, to the late Hanible Roberts and Ada Estep Roberts.

In earlier years, James was a coal miner, a bus driver, and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carmella Allen; his brothers, Herman Roberts Sr., and Ernest Roberts; his sister, Chloe Harman; and two nieces, Donna Marie Bowles and Donna Carol Roberts.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Hanible Lee Roberts and wife Sandra of Taylorsville; his daughters, Pam R. Fox and husband David Root of Taylorsville, and Crystal Lyen Lackey and husband Shawn of Taylorsville; his sister, Kathy Williams and husband Jimmy of Kentucky; grandchildren, D.J. Fox and Carmon Brown and husband Kyle of Hickory; great-grandson, Holden Brown; special cousin, Teresa Johnson; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Randall Roberts and Rev. Sammy Kiser will officiate. The family will receive friends the same day from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

    Uncle James Will always be missed… Loving the Heavenly Father since we know he’s with Him. Ya know Uncle James gotta be happy and smiling Praising Our Lord….
