A chicken house located west of Taylorsville burned on Wednesday morning, August 28, 2024, according to fire officials.

The incident took place at 85 Arthur Jenkins Lane, Taylorsville, said Deputy Fire Marshal Garrett Huffman. Fire crews were dispatched at 7:08 a.m. Ellendale, Taylorsville, and Wittenburg fire departments responded to the scene, along with the Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The property is owned by Curtis Childers, of Taylorsville. Childers told authorities that the facility did not have chickens inside. However, the fire claimed seven goats. Cattle and hogs at the farm were not harmed. No one was at the property at the time of the fire, Huffman noted.

The fire appears to be accidental, said Huffman, but it remains under investigation. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation.
