2nd Chance Ministries opens

At the newly opened 2nd Chance Ministries in Taylorsville, co-founders Shane and Jennifer Simpson believe in building people back up.
The husband-and-wife team have come through a rough several years, which involved addiction and domestic violence. Shane said he had been in and out of the criminal justice system since he was 13 years old. In 2016, Shane and Jennifer were homeless and had a trash bag full of clothes. The couple had been verbally and physically abusive to each other. DSS was about to take their children. However, the couple came to know their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who changed their lives for the better.
Now, they own and operate S&J Construction and Landscaping. Several of their employees are recovering addicts, “some of the best men I’ve got,” Shane said.
In addition, Shane preaches in tent revivals. Both he and Jennifer have become certified life coaches to help others.
They opened the ministry office at 135 Seventh Street SW, across from Taylorsville Elementary School, on Monday, September 8. The facility also houses the S&J Construction and Landscaping office and The Haven Studio (a hair salon).
2nd Chance Ministries offer services to help those in need of a fresh start, including:
• Life skills and life coaching (with certified life coaches).
• Help finding employment.
• Assistance obtaining proper identification, birth certificates, etc.
• Support for those coming out of incarceration.
• Guidance for the homeless looking for stability and opportunity.
“Our vision is simple but powerful: to be present, to help our community rise, and to see lives restored,” Shane Simpson said. “But above everything else, it’s not just about jobs or skills it’s about finding hope and purpose through a true relationship with Jesus Christ️. If you’re ready for a second chance, come join us,” Shane said.
Rounding out the staff, Nita Powers is hair stylist and owner of The Haven Studio. She can provide free haircuts to people who need, for instance, to look presentable for a job interview. Lacy Lancaster is a life coach and career readiness counselor.

Men’s Meetings will be held one Monday monthly at 7 p.m. Women’s Meetings will be on Tuesday evenings (time will be announced).
