Hundreds of items among unclaimed property at Alexander Sheriff’s Office

Many items are being held by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office as unclaimed personal property. Sheriff Chad Pennell explained that the items may be claimed by their rightful owners by Saturday, April 4.

The items came to the Sheriff’s Office from many different ways, Pennell said. This includes evidence from old cases, items found by the roadside, and objects in abandoned vehicles.

The property is listed on Page 7A in this week’s issue. Any person having reason to believe that this property belongs to them must contact the Evidence Custody Division at 828-352-7809 no later than April 4, 2026.

Proof of ownership is required, and a prior report must have been filed with law enforcement listing the property in order to make a claim.

Personal documents, including but not limited to identification cards, driver’s licenses, financial records, and other sensitive papers, will not be offered for sale.

After this time, the Sheriff’s Office will auction off the unclaimed items, which is planned for April 18, at 10:00 a.m. The auction will be conducted at the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Building, located at 93 Industrial Boulevard, Taylorsville.
