Group to meet Mar. 21, will plan deer hunts for disabled persons

A track chair for use by disabled sportsmen, will be available as needed in the upcoming deer hunt.

A non-profit organization, Hands of a Sportsman, will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Captain’s Galley, in Stony Point, in order to gather local volunteers and landowners to be part of a deer hunt for disabled hunters.

The hunt will be assisted by NC Wildlife Resources officers and will allow disabled hunters to use a rifle during the opening day of bow season for deer hunting on September 9, 2017.

Organizer Guy Mundy said he hopes the hunt can accomodate 10 disabled hunters this year.

“We want people in the community to help,” Mundy related. Other community meetings are planned in the coming months.

To find out how you can help, simply attend the March 21 meeting or call Guy Mundy at 828-228-6222 or Dale Allen at 828-632-5927.
