Movie filmed in Alexander locations premieres Feb. 7

Ronald J. Rossmann, Jr., the owner and creative director of Be Your Own Hero Productions, LLC, has announced the premiere of his newest feature, “You’re It!,” a psychological thriller that redefines the slasher genre.

Starring The Walking Dead alumni Santiago Cirilo and Amber Dawn Fox, this groundbreaking production is produced by internationally acclaimed artist Gregbo Watson (Marvel, Zenescope, 20th Century Fox TV) and directed by Rossmann, who is an award-winning independent filmmaker.

There will be an exclusive premiere event at Ayrsley Grand Cinemas 14 in Charlotte on February 7 before making its streaming debut the following week, distributed through My Way Pictures.
The production was shot entirely in the Carolinas, with key scenes taking place at Lake Hickory Haunts (www.lakehickoryhaunts.com), a haunt attraction in the Southeast, located in Hickory.

A Reinvention of the Slasher

The story follows a seemingly supernatural serial killer who traps and stalks the crew of a retro-style horror film in a terrifying, maniacal game of hide-and-seek.

However, unlike typical “slice-and-dice” slasher flicks, You’re It! delivers a deeply engaging narrative, focusing on character evolution and relatable dialogue. Inspired by John Carpenter’s pure and suspenseful approach in Halloween, which pioneered the slasher genre and launched a thousand machetes, You’re It! adds a modern psychological twist to an overtly saturated blunt and basic genre. While paying homage to Carpenter’s Halloween and other slasher classics, You’re It! dares to reinvent the genre with thrilling storytelling and shocking twists.

Highlighting Carolina Talent and Locations

Be Your Own Hero Productions is proud to showcase the Carolinas as both a stunning backdrop and a thriving hub for creative filmmaking.

The filming took 31 days over 16 weekends, Rossmann said.

Alexander County locations include the Bentley Cabin in the Sugar Loaf Community, the former Alexander County Jail, and Alexander Funeral Service.

“I like filming in Taylorsville because we get so much cooperation and there’s so many great spots to film,” he added.

Hickory’s own Lake Hickory Haunts served as a central filming location, blending the atmospheric elements of the region with the chilling narrative of the film.

Other locations included the Schiele Museum, Rock Hill, and Charlotte.
